Typically sciatica affects only one side of your body.
If the floor doesn t do it for you try a recliner.
However this doesn t always result in relief.
Stop yourself from lying on your painful side.
Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve which branches from your lower back through your hips and buttocks and down each leg.
Many patients love this option saying that it allows them to actually sleep through the night.
Sciatica most commonly occurs when a herniated disk bone spur on the spine or narrowing of the spine spinal stenosis.
It may take a few days for you to get used to the floor so don t give up after only one night.
Lying on the unaffected leg is a common piece of advice for those with sciatic pain.
For sitting we suggest sitting in a chair with both feet planted on the floor and your legs at a 90 degree angle from your trunk.
Sometimes the pain is simply too intense to get into the propped up position.
However if your pain is severe it can be a challenge to find a comfortable position and to fall asleep and or to stay asleep through the night.
How to sit with sciatica.
If your low back pain or sciatica worsens in the propped up position simply return to lying face down and relax for a few more minutes and then try to prop up again.
If this is the case wait a few hours and try again.
